Senior League Baseball
American Legion Baseball – GREEN & GOLD Teams
Junior Legion Baseball – GOLD Team (GREEN if needed)
Senior Recreation Baseball
Commissioner, Al Lugo (firstname.lastname@example.org)
The high school age group has three updated programs for 2017 Edina summer baseball: American Legion, Junior Legion, and the Senior Recreation League.
EDINA AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL – *Five-time Minnesota State Legion Champions and 1983 U.S. National Champions!
- There will be TWO Edina American Legion Baseball teams in 2018. American Legion GOLD will play in the South Hennepin League, the same league Edina has played in in the past. American Legion GREEN will play in the Todd Oakes Division, consisting of communities with two American Legion teams. Both leagues are very competitive; however, the Gold team will be considered Edina’s #1 team. Both teams will be competing in tournaments and playoffs at the same level. Minnesota is the only state in the U.S. that is adding teams to American Legion Baseball due to the strong talent base in our communities.
- American Legion Baseball is for high school juniors and seniors (17-18 year olds). College freshmen who are 18 years of age as of January 1, 2017, are also eligible to play. Players must be registered with EBA to try out. In addition to the $255 registration fee, there will be travel fees assessed upon team announcements.
- Additional assessments will be $625 if a player makes one of the Junior Legion teams OR the American Legion GREEN team. The assessment will be $1,100 if a player makes the American Legion GOLD team. If a player plays on multiple teams (i.e. is a double roster candidate for Junior Legion and American Legion GOLD, that player will pay one assessment, which will be the higher of the two teams)
- PLAYERS AND PARENTS SHOULD EXPECT THE SEASON TO RUN FROM 1ST OR 2ND WEEK OF JUNE THOUGH THE END OF AUGUST (ASSUMING STATE TOUNAMENT PARTICIPATION). DURNG THIS TIME, IT IS EXPECTED THAT THE PLAYER WILL BE PRESENT AT ALL PRACTICES AND GAMES. IF A PLAYER MISSES ANY EVENTS IT WILL BE THE DISCRESTION OF THE COACHING STAFF TO DETERMINE THE APPROPRIATE LEVEL OF ACCOUNTABILITY. THIS COULD INCLUDED REDUCED PLAYING TIME. IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE PLAYER OR PARENT TO INFORM THE COACHING STAFF OF ANY KNOWN OBLIGATIONS (FAMILY VACATIONS, WEDDINGS, RETREATS, ETC) THAT WILL REQUIRE THE PLAYER TO MISS ANY BASEBALL EVENTS. THIS NOTIFICATION SHOULD BE SHARED WITH THE COACHING STAFF PRIOR TO THE TRYOUT PROCESS COMPLETING.
Note: All sophomores (16-year-olds) try out at the Junior Legion level but may be asked by invitation only to try out at the Senior Legion level.
EDINA JUNIOR LEGION BASEBALL
There will be one or two Edina Junior Legion teams this year: Junior Legion GOLD and Junior Legion GREEN (if needed). The JL Gold team will play in the top division of Junior Legion. If we field a 2nd team, the Green team will play in the second-most competitive league. Both leagues are very competitive and may play teams from the other league. Junior Legion baseball is for 10th graders (16-year-olds). This is the most competitive "travel team" option for 10th graders. Players must be registered with EBA to try out for the Junior Legion teams. In addition to the $255 registration fee, there will be travel fees assessed upon team announcements
The Edina Baseball Association will determine upon completion of registration as to whether we will field one or two teams at the Junior Legion level. Our goal is to make certain we have enough players to field a competitive team at any level. If it is determined that the EBA will field a single Junior Legion team, then 16 year old (those completing 9th grade) players not making that team will be eligible to be selected for the Senior Legion II team (coach's decision). If a player is not selected for the Senior Legion I, Senior Legion II or Junior Legion team, that player will be able to participate in the Senior Rec league.
Note: Sophomores will be by invitation only for the Senior American Legion Tryout and will be contacted individually by the Senior Legion Coach to let them know if they are invited to the Legion tryout.
EDINA SENIOR RECREATION LEAGUE BASEBALL
Senior Recreation Baseball is for 10th-12th graders. This league is fun, recreational baseball; however, we ask for a strong level of commitment by the players to their teams. Senior Rec teams play against teams from surrounding communities, so there is a travel component. There are no tryouts. Cost is $255. Please see the Senior Rec. League tab for more information.
All players must be registered and paid or they may not participate until they are registered.
Players who are signed up for the Senior Rec league DO NOT need to try out.
Players who try out for, but do not make, an American Legion or Junior Legion team roster will automatically be placed on a Senior Recreation team roster.
